Additional Property Attributes

The City has selected this property and the surrounding properties as the most suitable location for the site of two new middle schools that the city plans to construct to replace its outdated and overpopulated existing middle school.

Former Use: Lot 170 has been used as a site for a municipal well pump station for approximately fifty years. The well and associated pumping station currently present at Lot 170 was reportedly installed between 1954 and 1957 to provide an emergency municipal water supply after the Citys reservoir and potable water service was disrupted by Hurricane Carol in 1954. Reportedly, for an unidentified period of time following 1954, groundwater was pumped from this well and treated in order to supply City residents with water. In 1959, the City of Woonsocket acquired Lot 170 from the New England Craftsmen, Inc. The well pump station at Lot 170 has not been active for many years; however no reference to any formal abandonment or decommissioning of this station was documented in historical records.
