Additional Property Attributes

A cleanup grant has been awarded to the City of Ashland. Remediation efforts outlined and accepted in the RAP/RAOR for this property will be carried out under this grant. See Cooperative Agreement BF-00E00905 for further details.

Former Use: The property is located at 414 W. 11th Avenue and is within the City of Ashland, Wisconsin. Residences surround the subject property to the north and south. Commercial properties are to the east and former commercial properties that are now vacant land are to the west. The property is a commercial/industrial property approximately 1.09-acres in size and was a former salvage yard. The property is located in the SW � of the NE � of Section 5, Township 47 North, Range 4 West in the City of Ashland, Ashland County, Wisconsin tax parcel 201-00361-0000. Historically, the property was developed in the late 1800�s by the railroad for use as railroad yard, trackage, stockyard, and coal storage. Some residences existed on the property and a few remained and were used for material storage while Chicago Iron was active at the property. In the 1920�s, a feed warehouse existed in what was the office building. The property was purchased by Chicago Iron & Supplies Inc. in the late 1960�s for use as a salvage yard.
