Additional Property Attributes

The EPA-funded Phase 1 and Phase 2 for the Prairie Maison Nursing Home site successfully leveraged WDNR and Wisconsin Department of Commerce grants totally 180,000 to assist in the demolition of the building. Bids for demolition and lead/asbestos abatement were accepted and a bid award made. It is anticipated that the site will be fully cleared by mid-November Wisconsin Department of Commerce press release at commerce.wi.gov/NEWS/releases/2010/106.html and City of Prairie du Chien press release at www.prairieduchien-wi.gov/#CITY CLOSES ON PRAIRIE MAISON PURCHASE and www.prairieduchien-wi.gov/downloads/agendas/2010-10-11-PRAIRIEMAISONPURCHASE.pdf. The goal is to redevelop the site as a "green" subdivision.

Former Use: Information obtained during the Phase 1 ESA indicates that the property was developed as a convalescent center, long-term care facility, and/or assisted living facility in three main construction phases between the mid-1960s and the 1970s. It operated for those purposes until June 27, 2009, under several different names. The most recent name was Prairie Maison. In June 2009, the facility�s residents were moved into a new facility located within the City of Prairie du Chien. The building on the subject property is currently vacant.
