Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The city of Hailey owned the property since 1950. Prior to use as an unregulated landfill from 1950-1964, the property was undeveloped floodplain adjacent to the Wood River. From 1950-1964 the property was used as a dump for household and construction waste. The property was closed and capped in 1964 and a baseball field was constructed over the landfill in 1981. The approach area to the landfill is undeveloped. The approach area is the property that is of interest to the City in terms of redevelopment as improved open space, parking, and a public ice rink. It is not expected that the approach area is contaminated with landfill debris, however soil and groundwater conditions in the areas of the proposed redevelopment are unknown.

Lions Park is a former unregulated dump site along the Big Wood River. The dump site was used approximately from the late 1930s to the early 1970s. The current use is access to area trails along the river and there is a baseball/softball field. The field is also used for other events such as concerts. There is a dirt/gravel parking area that covers the buried waste. The city of Hailey would like to alter the river channel for a river calming project to reduce downstream flooding during high water events. This would require disturbance and potential removal of buried waste. A portion of the parking area to the south was found to have elevated concentrations of several metals. This area may require a removal of the contaminated soil to facilitate the project.
