Additional Property Attributes

The remediated site was restored by installation of a cap system which was engineered specifically to prohibit direct contact with residual contamination while expanding upon the usefulness and public benefit of the property. The engineered capping system completed on the property includes geotextile fabric below two outdoor ice rinks, a concrete warming shack, topsoil, and asphalt pathways, parking lots and driveway areas. This project gave the children of Superior a safe place to play hockey - this was a project with great social and economic impact during difficult times. A permanent ice arena job was created because of the new facility.

Former Use: With the exception of railroad spurs, the property was primarily vacant throughout it's history. In 1988, the Superior Amateur Hockey Association SAHA bought and developed the property as an ice arena. The property became listed as an ERP site by the WDNR in January 2002. In 2006, the City of Superior and SAHA sought to redevelop the property and expand the recreation facility. The City of Superior purchased the property SAHA in January 0f 2010.
