Additional Property Attributes

The vacant lot at 13 East Main Street was incorporated into the redevelopment plan for 15 East Main Street (0.1 acres of residential). The result of these efforts was the creation of a 10-unit supportive housing development for young adults called Orange Teen Housing and a proposed "pocket park" for use by the tenants and the community.

Former Use: The site consisted of scattered overgrown vegetation and remnants of a former concrete building foundation. The site formerly had a structure on it from the 1880s through the 1960s, which had been used as a residence, a store and a restaurant. The structure was razed around 1968 and the property has remained vacant since. A non-profit organization expressed interested in acquiring the site from the Town and an adjacent residential property for redevelopment. In 2014, Rural Development Inc. proposed to work with Dial-Self to create supportive youth housing. With funds from Rural Development, Inc. and MassHousing, the 10-unit Orange Teen Housing development was completed. A proposed "pocket park" is being developed on the site as well, with support from the Town, community donors and MassDevelopment.
