Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The City of Prairie du Chien owns and manages the subject property. The property includes Lucky Park,a city park that is open to the public, as well as undeveloped wooded vacant land.The historical use on the southeast part of the subject property is associated with the storage and use of petroleum products and hazardous substances prior to current regulations that control the storage and disposal of these materials. The property�s use between the 1920�s and the 1980�s is identified as a REC for the subject property. Tax Parcel 0920 309 W. Blackhawk Avenue was developed as a vulcanizing facility,and an auto garage by the 1920�s. The auto garage had a 15-car capacity and a clay floor. Tax Parcel 0921 315 W. Blackhawk Avenue was developed as a filling station in 1943. The 1943 Sanborn Map shows three gasoline tanks near the street. City assessment records from the 1940�s to the 1960�s show three tanks were present: one 1,000-gallon and two 550-gallon, as well as two pumps, and a hoist. Removal records were not found for the tanks, pumps, and hoist. In 1944 and 1945, the building was expanded to include a repair shop and a showroom. It was subsequently used to sell and repair agricultural implements and automobiles. In 1985, Prairie Auto Sales Leo and Lenard Heiderscheit removed three 2,000-gallon USTs from the property. The contents were listed as leaded gasoline. The historical use of an adjoining property to the east, at 121 N. Main Street, is associated with the storage and use of petroleum products and hazardous substances prior to current regulations that control the storage and disposal of these materials. The property�s use between the 1900�s and the 1940�s is identified as a REC for the subject property. A property identified at 121 N. Main Street in the 1943 Sanborn Map was used as a Machine Shop between 1899 and 1905. It was used for General Repairs between 1912 and 1943.
