Additional Property Attributes

The Former Johnson County Jail was constructed in 1933 of sandstone blocks, stands three stories tall and is approximately 2,059 square feet. At an unknown time, the jail was vacated, and it was used for storage by Johnson County. Today the building is unused and filled with trash, refuse, demolished building materials, clothing, toys and other items strewn throughout the first and second floors. Sanborn maps indicate an "auto" building with gas tanks was located adjacent and upgradient of the jail for at least 20 years, but no records of the gas station exist with KDEP.
