Former St. Stephens Elementary School has been redeveloped in to a Walmart Neighborhood Market, multi-tenant retail building, and numerous outparcels. Currently Developed outparcels in include Sheetz gas station, Zaxby's, Sam's Express Car Wash, and Arby's.

Former Use: The subject site is located at 2415 Springs Road NE in Hickory, North Carolina. The property is comprised of one vacant land parcel totaling approximately 19.46 acres. The areas south and east of the site are comprised of predominantly commercial land uses. Residential properties exist to the north and west of the site. The northern portion of the site is currently being utilized as a community garden. The subject site was first developed as a school as early as the 1930s. Between the 1930s and 1960s, additional classrooms, a lunch room, a gymnasium, and a shop were added to the facility. The school was converted into an elementary school when the new St. Stephens High School was built in the 1960s. It remained an active elementary school until it closed in 2001. Fire destroyed some of the buildings in 2005. By 2007, all site buildings had been demolished.
