Additional Property Attributes

The Century City Redevelopment Area was formerly a manufacturing complex for Tower Automotive and A.O. Smith Corporation, and this former automotive-related complex was one of the first casualties of the carmaker downturn in the early 2000's. This area is being transformed into a modern business park that will be a major economic engine for the 30th Street Industrial Corridor area. While the former automotive complex is over 140 acres, this 15.6 acre portion is being prepared for the arrival of Talgo, Inc. by late summer 2010. Talgo assembles high-speed trains and is locating their North American headquarters here.

Former Use: From the early 1900s to 1997, this large industrial property in the heart of Milwaukee was owned by the A.O. Smith Corporation. The facility's primary function was the production of auto s, but a number of other products were manufactured as well, including military equipment, water heaters, electric motors and linseed oil. At its peak, this facility employed more than 8,000 people. In 1997, Tower Automotive acquired the business and operated until 2005, when the company flied for bankruptcy. Milwaukee Industrial Trade Corporation MITC acquired the site in 2005 and worked to scrap and recycle as much of the property as possible. In December 2009, the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee took title to the property to begin the assessment, cleanup and redevelopment of the site, which is located in the 30th Street Industrial Corridor, a five-mile long stretch of historically industrial properties adjacent to an active railroad line.
