Former Use: Located on the shore of Fidalgo Bay in Anacortes and covers 6.6 acres of upland and 34 acres of tidal areas. The property was used as a plywood mill from the 1900s until 1922. Plywood veneers were dried in one of two kiln dryers heated by hog-fuel boiler steam. Sawdust created by the plant was used for oil spills. Toulene was used to clean out glue applications used at the plant. the site has had industrial activities that include placement of creosote pilings, hog fuel boilers and incinerators, however, no evaluation of potential site contamination - other than obvious releases that occurred during the 1992 fire of the plywood manufacturing plant has ever been performed until 2000. also, this site had significant handling/use of chemicals, including piping and distribution, as well as disposal of waste materials, including filing of tidelands with wood, ash, bricks, metal and sediments. Ownership of the site include: 1913-1937: Bill Morison, Fidalgo Lumbar and box Company 1937-1939: Anacortes plywood Company 1939-1969: Anacortes Veneer Company 1969-1984: The site was owned by Publishers Forest Products Co. of Washington In 1984, Anacortes Plywood assumed control of the old Publishers Forest products plant. in 1991, Brent Homes assumed control of the property as a result of bankruptcy proceedings. in 1992, the Mill shut down and shortly after, burned to its pilings in suspected arson fire.
