Additional Property Attributes

Assessment Grant funds were used to complete cleanup planning which include specifications for maintaining impervious barrier and storm water control during and after demolition of the old buildings on site. The Cleanup Funding noted in this profile is the cost of demolition of the building and oversight. Former Use: The Acme Building site is one of the earlier manufacturing sites in the City of Jackson. First developed as early as 1886, the site has been occupied by various manufacturers with the main occupants being ACME Industries and Zoerman-Clark Manufacturing. Products manufactured at the property have included farm implements, wagons, and later, heating and cooling equipment. Operations at the site ceased in the late 1980s and the buildings were occupied by various tenets until the late 1990s. Since the early 2000s the site has been vacant. Numerous environmental investigations have been conducted on these parcels between 1996 and 2015. Various volatile organic compounds, polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, and metals have been detected in soil and groundwater at concentrations which exceed current generic residential cleanup criteria. The property is currently vacant concrete covered land at the southern portion and the former Zoerman-Clark building at the northern portion. Future Uses: Redevelop the property for commercial purposes (cafretail, and creative studios).

Indoor air sampling was conducted in the former Zoerman-Clark building in April, June, and August of 2022. The sampling results indicate no chemicals of concern were present in excess of VIAP SLs in any of the collected indoor air samples during any of the three sampling events.
