Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The northeast portion of the Property was developed with an opera house along West Michigan Avenue and the southwest portion of the Property was developed with a blacksmith/wood shop along West Jackson Street by 1887. Between 1887 and 1902 the Property continued to be occupied by an opera house and blacksmith/wood shop. By 1913, the opera house had been converted to a dry goods store. By 1916, the opera house building was occupied by a department store. The building continued to be occupied by a department store until sometime between 1980 and 1985 when it was vacant. Between 1995 and 2005, the building was occupied by the United Arts Council and a restaurant. Between 2005 and 2010, the building was vacant. By 1907, an additional building had been constructed on the southwest portion of the Property along West Jackson Avenue. Between 1907 and sometime between 1913 and 1919, the two buildings along West Jackson Avenue were occupied by various commercial businesses including a blacksmith/wood shop that included painting operations and a used automobile business. Between 1938 and 1950, one of the buildings was demolished and the other building was occupied by various commercial businesses. By 1961, the second building along West Jackson Street was demolished, and the area of the Property along West Jackson Street was used for parking.
