Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The site is a former manufacturing location first developed as a textile mill in the early 1890s by American Cotton Fabric Corporation. The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company Goodyear purchased the mill in the 1920s for the manufacture of rubber tires and specialty rubber products. The plant closed in 1990. Goodyear conducted facility decommissioning following plant closure and removal of operations and equipment. Decomissioning activities included the demolition of all structures. During the course of decommisioning, it was discovered that lubricating oils from machinery had been released to soil and groundwater. A Phase II assessment completed in 1999 indicated that lead, petroleum hydrocarbons, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and volatile organic compounds were present in soil and groundwater. A Response Action Outcome Statement and Activity and Use Limitation were submitted to MassDEP in 2000.
