Additional Property Attributes

While the East St. Louis Housing Authority was conducting gut rehabs of a number of the Villa Griffin housing units, the contractor discovered significant mold damage in the kitchens of many of these units and stopped work, worried about possible worker exposure. SWIDA agreed to fund a mold inspection of these housing units. The mold remediation was put out for bid. A contractor has been selected, but at this time, the Housing Authority is waiting for funding. Additionally, SWIDA had earlier funded with an earlier Brownfield Assessment grant a limited geotehnical foundation study for a number of the housing units that were settling. SWIDA funded a more extensive study for these structures with recommendations for mitigation of these issues.

Former Use: Villa Griffins Public Housing is owned by the East St. Louis Housing Authority. The site is located in East St. Louis, north of Jones Park & the Jackie Joyner Kersee Center. The site has been used residentially for many years, but lies in an area currently and historically used for industrial purposes.
