Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The property lies within Section 34, Township 48 North, Range 4 West in the City of Ashland, Ashland County, Wisconsin. It is located south of the Timeless Timber facility located at 2200 Lake Shore Drive East east of 22nd Avenue East and north of 6th Street East and is approximately 1.25 acres in size. It is located in a mixed use residential and commercial area northeast of the downtown area of the City of Ashland. The property is currently undeveloped. Remnants of at least two support structures of a piping system as well as a foundation for an office are located on the north end of the property adjacent to the location of a former railroad spur. The property was originally platted for residnetial use in the late 1800�s. One north/south Street 23rd Avenue E and several east/west streets have since been removed from this general area. Railroad spur development on the property was present by 1975.It is believed the spur was constructed sometime between 1964 and 1975 to run from the main railroad line located to the south directly to the manufacturing facility currently Timeless Timber immediately north. In 1967, the Beloit Hibob Corporation purchased the property from the Ashland Area Industrial Development Corporation and manufactured logging equipment. The spur was used to transport 2 x 4 agricultural poles and basswood blocks. It is believed the spur was dismantled by 2000. Chain of ownership information indicates that the property was owned in 1906 by the Wisconsin Town Lot Company. Portions of the property were first acquired by the City of Ashland around 1966 from Ashland County. Beloit Hibob Corporation purchased the property from the Ashland Area Industrial Development Corporation in 1967. It appears the City of Ashland took ownership of the remainder of the subject property sometime between 1973 and 1978.
