Former Use: The property lies within Section 34, Township 48 North, Range 4 West in the City of Ashland, Ashland County, Wisconsin. The property is located south of the Timeless Timber facility located at 2200 Lake Shore Drive East, east of 22nd Avenue East and on the north side of 6th Street East, and is approximately 2.11 acres in size. It is currently undeveloped and wooded, and is located in a mixed use residential and commercial area located northeast of the downtown area of the City of Ashland. No structures are present, although a cleared area that was the corridor for a former railroad spur is still present. The property was originally platted for residential use in the late 1800�s. Aerial photographs indicate that potential residential structures were present on the property as late as 1970. One north/south Street 23rd Avenue E and several east/west streets have since been removed from this general area. Railroad spur development on the property was present by 1975. It is believed the spur was constructed sometime between 1964 and 1975 to run from the main railroad linelocated to the south directly to the manufacturing facility currently Timeless Timber immediately north. In 1967, the Beloit Hibob Corporation purchased the property and manufactured logging equipment. The spur was used to transport 2 x 4 agricultural poles and basswood blocks. It is believed the spur was dismantled by 2000. Portions of the subject property were owned by private individuals through 1966, at which time the City of Ashland began acquiring portions of the property. Continental Forest products Company acquired the property in 1973, and Louisiana Pacific Corporation acquired the subject property in 1977. The most recent deed recordation involved a quit claim deed from Louisiana Pacific Corporation to the City of Ashland in 1999.
