Additional Property Attributes

The property was originally used as a hangar and maintenance facility for an airplane owned and operated by the POZ. The facility is associated with the Zuni Airport which still has an operational runway. In the 1980s the POZ used the building as a maintenance facility for tribal fleet vehicles, which included cars, trucks, buses and other tribal-owned vehicles. In approximately 1993, the POZ jointly occupied the facility with the University of New Mexico (UNM) Gallup Branch which used the facility as an auto body and maintenance training facility. In 1998 the facility was vacated when UNM ceased the training program and has been vacant since that time. Phase I & II ESAs were completed at the request of the NWNMCOG. The Phase II investigation identified a UST of unknown age and use. NMED's contractor removed the UST and inspected the tank pit for impacted soils. The tank was intact and only minor leaking was noted from the access valve. The tank and impacted soils were removed and disposed of at an appropriate facility. A notice of tank closure was given to NMED PSTB (tanks bureau).
