Additional Property Attributes

At the time of ECTs site reconnaissance, the Subject Property was part of Mount Baldhead Park and contained the Former Saugatuck Gap Filler Radar Station located on Mount Baldhead, the parking and shelter area at the base of Mount Baldhead, and the stairs that connect the two areas. The Former Saugatuck Gap Filler Radar Station is located on Mount Baldhead and is improved with a control building and radar tower dome. The station is not operational however, ECT observed limited telecommunications activities being conducted in the controlbuilding at the time of the site reconnaissance. Equipment and maintenance materials associated with the former station operations were observed inside the control building. The parking and shelter area is located at the base of Mount Baldhead. The shelter is a covered pavilion with picnic areas and restrooms.

Former Use: According to an article printed in the Environmental News, dated June 2006, the United States Air Force obtained the Subject Property from the City of Saugatuck in 1956 to construct a radar gap filler station. The station consisted of a control building and radar towerdome built on Mount Baldhead, structures that were present at the Subject Property at the time of the site reconnaissance. The United States Air Force returned the Subject Property to the City of Saugatuck in 1968. In 2005, Tower Marine offered to remove and preserve the radar equipment and proposed that the Subject Property could be improved as a tourist attraction and location for various communications devices.
