Additional Property Attributes

This Preliminary Endangerment Assessment was performed to assess conditions at the proposed Earthlab Outdoor Science Education site. The screening evaluation results indicate that exposure to COPCs under the conditions evaluated does not pose an unacceptable health risk to residents or future occupants (including school children) at the site. Therefore, no further action is recommended for the site. The site is partially developed as an outdoor education center, but contains mostly undeveloped land containing native and non-native plants and trees.

Former Use: The site is being proposed for redevelopment as a major science, farm, and play area for nearby schools and neighborhoods. The project was implemented on behalf of Groundwork San Diego-Chollas Creek (Groundwork); a citizen-based non-profit organization. Groundwork, in partnership with the San Diego Unified School District (District), initiated site redevelopment activities to expand the outdoor science education facilities. However, the redevelopment efforts were temporarily suspended because of concerns about potential environmental impacts from previous land use and freeway pollution.
