Additional Property Attributes

Site consists of two parcels that include a vacant industrial building complex that was formerly occupied by Lunt Silversmiths and recreational ballfields. The site has a history of industrial use from 1902 through 2009, predominantly for the manufacture of silverware and holloware metal cups and bowls. The Phase I assessment has revealed recognized environmental concerns, including its historical manufacturing use, the presence of containers, an AST, certain equipment, and other items suspected presence of hazardous substances related to building materials such as asbestos, and the potential for a release of reportable concentration on the site. Note: The parcel with the newer building in the northeast corner of the site and at the same address Map 95 Block 1 Lot UTA is not included in this assessment.

Former Use: According to Assessor's records, the original factory building was constructed in 1890 with additions constructed up to 2004. The factory complex was used to manufacture silverware and holloware throughout its history except for a brief time during WWII, when the factory produced parts and instruments for other purposes. The Lunt Silversmith company ceased manufacturing operations on the site in 2009. On the western portion of the site, there are three recreational ballfields used by the Greenfield Minor League. Sometime between the 1920s-1940s, temporary veteran housing was constructed on this portion of the site, which was then razed prior to 1965 and converted to ballfields. The Town acquired the site to retain the ballfields, and to support development of the mill buildings. A separate building on the site has been retained by a private owner. The Town, working with a private developer and public partners, completed clean-up and demolition of the first phase of the site redevelopment project in December 2015. In July 2016, a new 64-bed substance abuse treatment center was opened in the redeveloped Building #1.
