Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The site is comprised of 3 parcels, including the approximately 5.6 acre main parcel occupied by 3 buildings, the approximately 1.3 acre unpaved parcel formerly used for parking and material storage, and the undeveloped approximately 1.9 acre parcel located along the Branford River south and west of the main parcel. The main parcel is bounded by Meadow Street and the southern end of Church Street, and is adjacent to land owned by Amtrak to the south. The eastern end of the main parcel is bounded by Montowese Street. The site was developed around 1906 for use by Atlantic Wire Company, manufacturer of tin and copper coated, and uncoated steel wire. Other occupants of the site have included Bellis Heat Treating Company, Atco Products, Inc., Northeast Steel Corp, Atlantic CS&W, LLC, a railroad freight deopt and residential buildings. Bellis Heat Treating Company occupied a now demolished building located east of the current main building, and apparently discharged wastes to the groun, and to a reported drywell located east of the former builiding. One of the areas proposed for remediation is located near the dry well and surface discharge area. The Atlantic Wire Company sold in 2000, and the operations at the site were ceased in late 2008. In accordance with CT General Statutes 22a-134, a Form III and ECAF were filed in 2000 when the business was sold. In late 2008/early 2009, process equipment and tanks were removed fromt he site. The facility is currently vacant.
