Additional Property Attributes

IDNR issued letter stating no additional assessment or cleanup is required based on non residential site use. The property, which formerly contained a Chicago and Milwaukee Railroad Rail Yard, is the site of a Wetlands Center being constructed in conjunction with the communitys recent designation as an Iowa Great Place. The referenced facility will be a multi-purpose, three-season structure and will include a stage and associated events lawn, playground, boardwalk to access the adjoining wetland to the north, an informal classroom space for students, a picnic shelter, and rest rooms. The facilitys architectural design will mimic the former roundhouse located on the property. An additional 500,000 will be invested to complete the Wetlands Centre. Funds will be from donations and the City of Marquette. http://www.driftlessareawetlandcentre.com/ website for Centre

Former Use: According to available historical documentation, the property contained a railroad and a roundhouse from approximately 1917-1979. The property contained a variety of commercial uses, included a lumber yard, from 1980-1994. The City has utilized the site primarily for storage since 1995 and for expansion of the City's waste treatment system at the western end of the site.
