Additional Property Attributes

The property is occupied by a 3-story 42,000 square foot retail building in the traditional downtown area of Port Huron. Historic records show that the property was developed sometime before 1867 when seven buildings were on site. An eighth building was constructed at the site sometime prior to 1892. These buildings consisted of a hotel, the Globe Hotel, a shed, ticket office, saloon, watch maker, parlor, candy store, a clothing store, Chinese laundry dry cleaning, and a livery. These businesses operated at various times until the buildings were demolished sometime before 1922 when the present day building was constructed. The building has been operated as a Sperry department store until 2000. A hair salon occupied a portion of the second floor in the 1990s. A furniture store occupied the building in the early to mid 2000s. The building has been vacant since 2007. A Phase I Environmental Site Assessment completed in May 2010 identified Recognized Environmental Conditions associated with the former dry cleaning operation, former heating oil tanks used at the property, and an adjoining property to the west that had historically been used as a gasoline filling station. A subsequent Phase II Environmental Site Assessment did not reveal the presence of soil or groundwater contamination associated with these recognized environmental conditions.
