Additional Property Attributes

The Golden Cycle Mill operated at the property from 1900 - 1949 processing gold ores from Cripple Creek, Colorado. The site was not used from 1949 until cleanup and redevelopment began in 2005. The overall mill site is 210 acres containing approximately 11 million cubic yards of tailing material. The property developer of Gold Hill Mesa is buliding a home development on the capped tailings and there are now over 100 homes built and occupied, and more are built every year. The development is very close to downtown Colorado Springs and has impressive views of Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods and the Front Range. The voluntary cleanup application includes the entire site and cleanup is in progress. As of January 2012, cleanup has been completed at Filing 1 30 acres and Filing 2 17 acres. The 10-acre southwest commercial-planned corner is currently undergoing cleanup. Several other sub-areas are expected to be cleaned up in 2012.
