Additional Property Attributes

It is highly likely that the crushing of automobiles in the 1970s by Spioch Equipment Company caused gasoline, oils, greases, and other contaminants to leach into the soil and groundwater. Rhodes Body Shop is another potential source of contaminant release during the late 1970s. Lead and arsenic levels may be high if lead arsenate was used as a pesticide in the apple orchard prior to purchase by Spioch Equipment Company. Also, it was reported that a building burned on the property in the early 1990s. If contaminants were stored in the building, it is highly likely that they were released into the ground during and after the fire.

Former Use: The 9.92 acre soccer field property was used in the 1970s by Spioch Equipment Company as a salvage yard and crushing facility for automobiles. It was bought by Rhodes Body Shop in the late 1970s and sold to Seely Furniture in October, 1980. The Morgan County Commission purchased the property from the Seely family in 2006. It was also previously used as an apple orchard. Currently, a section of the site has been graded for use as a soccer field, but due to safety concerns resulting from contamination and automotive debris, the site is not being used. The 16 acre wooded property is believed to be free of contamination.
