Additional Property Attributes

This is a 1953-era dormitory that is in a dilapidated state and is outmoded in terms of design. A long-time boarding house for indigent men, the YMCA is demolishing this structure and building a more historically appealing 21 unit residence featuring independent living arrangements. The back of the property will remain a parking lot offset by a chain link fence.

Former Use: This property is the long-time former Griffin White Home for Men, a wood-d dormitory dwelling with a common bathroon, kitchen, entryway and congregation area. It is a brick veneer and wood-shingled two-story structure with an asphalt gable roof, side deck and a parking lot in the rear. Most of the grounds emcompass the footprint of the building and the paved parking area. The building has traditionally been oil-heated. The building is slated to be demolished and rebuilt as 22-independent living units for low-income homeless men AND women. Each unit will have kitchenettes and private baths. This will be accomplished by adding to the footprint of the existing layout in the newly-rebuilt structure. This will be a very visible project on Main Street Route 125 aside City Hall. This projects takes advantage of strong existing infrastructure and concentrates growth in the center of the city smart-growth.
