Additional Property Attributes

The property is currently occupied by a two-story school with a basement that has been vacant since the 1984. The intention is to clear the building from the property in order to create a parking area and green space.

Former Use: The property consists of an approximately 32,000-square foot building on approximately .93-acres of land. The building, currently unoccupied, was a former junior and senior high school. The northern portion of the building was constructed circa 1900 and the southern portion was added in 1927. The building is two-stories with a basement, with the front of the building facing west. The exterior of the building consists of brick, stone, and a slate roof. The building is located along the eastern property boundary. The building is boarded up and appears to be falling apart. Most of the roof on the southern portion of the building has caved in, leaving interior portions of the building exposed. A rubber tarp covers the roof on the northern portion of the building. Exterior-mounted metal scaffolding supports a wall on the northern portion of the building to prevent it from collapsing. Areas of the property not occupied by the building consist of grass, gravel, and concrete. The property used to be a junior high and high school, but has been vacant since 1984. The property was donated to Madison Grant Youth Basketball League in 1987. In 2002, Historic Properties, Inc. took ownership with the intention of restoring the building. However, Historic Properties, Inc. was unable to fund the restoration, and the Madison Grant Youth Basketball League regained ownership of the Property in 2008. The Madison Grant Youth Basketball League is worried about the stability of the building. Exterior-mounted steel scaffolding is supporting one of the walls of the building to prevent it from collapsing. The Madison Grant Youth Basketball League is hoping to demolish the building to prevent it from collapsing on the leagues gym, located to the east of the property.
