Additional Property Attributes

Approximately half an acre was turned into a linear park. The remaining portion of the property is pending development of a boat house. Thea-Foss Development Authority is currently working with a citizen's group to raise the funds to build the boathouse. Once built, it will promote canoeing and kayaking on Commencement Bay. Updated 10-22-2015: FWDA will begin public planning for the conversion of the entire site to a park late this fall. Pierce Assessor records shows the property is leased to BIL-JAX Scaffolding business.

Former Use: Prior to 1955, the site was used for boat building. From 1955 to 1986 it was a plating factory. They specialized in polished copper, nickel and bright chrome finishes. The facility was operation from 1976 to 1986 when operations ceased and the business filed for bankruptcy. The City of Tacoma acquired the property in the late 1980s. In 2002 the buildings on the property was demolished and removed from the site. The site sat vacant ever since.
