Additional Property Attributes

Union Station consists of two vacant buildings on Frank B. Murray Street: a three story terminal building and a two-story baggage building. Constructed in 1926, both buildings are on the National Register of Historical Places. The terminal building comprises 120,250 square feet and sits on a 50,000 square-foot parcel, with access to Frank B. Murray Street. The baggage building comprises 92,618 square feet on 53,000 square-foot parcel and is connected to the terminal building. A significant amount of federal and state funds have been earmarked for the redevelopment of Union Station into a regional intermodal transportation facility, featuring expanded and enhanced passenger-rail and bus services. The City of Springfield and the Springfield Redevelopment Authority are committed to redeveloping Union Station so that transportation providers can offer their passengers the benefits of a completely rehabilitated state-of-the-art intermodal transportation facility.

Former Use: The site, located at 55 Frank B. Murray Street, consists of a 2.39-acre parcel which is occupied by one three-story 120,250 square foot brick building i.e., the Terminal Building, and one two-story 92,618 square foot brick building i.e., the Baggage Building, both of which comprise the former Union Station railroad hub. The Site buildings were constructed in approximately 1915. Both buildings have been vacant for over 30 years. The three-story structure was historically used as the terminal building, while the two-story building was used as a baggage building.
