The Port Iron and Supply site, together with the Port Drum site across 7th street, form the gateway to the west end of Port Arthur, which the ity is targeting for Brownfields redevelopment. The City is in the process of purchasing the site from KCS, and has identified a developer interested in redeveloping the site for light commercial/industrial mixed use. (PPF attached to QR 3, 4/1/06-6/30/06)

Former Use: The site, located adjacent to a residential neighborhood, was a former KCS railroad yard/round house facility. The site was first developed around 1915 and was operated by KCS through the 1950s, when they began leasing the site to Port Iron and Supply. Port Iron and Supply operates a l recycling facility at the site. Site improvements consist of a small office, a truck scale, a maintenance shop, a ice house currently out of use, a paint shop currently out of use, a l shear and pump house currently out of use, and a railroad scale and associated building out of use.
