Additional Property Attributes

The property is located on the west bank of the Owens Dry Lake, approximately ten miles south of Lone Pine, California. Originally, the property was used by PPG as a salt extraction facility until it ceased operation in 1958.

Former Use: PPG sold the subject site to Inyo County on October 11, 1983. Inyo County sold the subject site to the McCabe Estate on January 27, 1987. The McCabe Estate was distributed in 1999 based on a death and the subject site was obtained by Marilyn Berger on June 25, 1999. Upon Berger's death, the subject site was purchased by the current owner on September 17, 2002. The property has had two known uses. The Pittsburgh Plate Glass (PPG) Barlett Industries owned and operated a salt extraction facility on the property until 1958 and the current owner used one of the on-site buildings as a small office and assembly facility for mechanical heart components. The site includes facilities from the former PPG salt extraction facility. The site is being evaluated by Inyo County and the owner as a possible location for the Owens Dry Lake Visitor Center and for renewable energy applications.
