Additional Property Attributes

The Rhodia Facility is a 16.7-acre site located in the Park Hill Corridor Study Area, in west Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. The site previously housed the Dabney-Jones Company who manufactured varnish from circa 1920 to circa 1965. The Celanese Corporation, a chemical, fibers, and specialty materials maker were located on the Property from circa 1970 to circa 1975. A dry-cleaning facility (Simmons Dry Cleaning Services) was located on the Property circa 1965. Since 1977 two fires and one explosion were reported to have occurred at the site. Two landfills were located on the site and ceased operations in the 1950s and 1960s. According to reports reviewed, twelve (12) USTs were reportedly removed and/or closed in place at the site in 1984. Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) were used at the Rhodia facility. Over 280 spills and releases have been documented since 1974. Several soil and groundwater investigations have been performed on the Property, all investigations indicated soil and groundwater impacts present at the site. Primary site constituents of concern remaining present in groundwater include VOCs, benzene, ethylbenzene, and xylene, and naphthalene. The site was permanently closed in 1994. An Environmental Covenant (EC) was issued on the Property in 2006. The covenant prohibits residential use of the Property and the use of groundwater for drinking or domestic use.
