Additional Property Attributes

Cleanup was not required on this property, but continued reuse required a "No Action" determination from the State. The assessment activity was triggered by refinancing activity. The City decided that the job retention associated with keeping the business in Minneapolis was worthy of the assessment grant funds.

Former Use: The Site was developed by at least 1885 with two residential dwellings. The northern of the two dwellings was demolished in 1929 and developed into the current Site building, which was used from 1929 until the mid 1970s as a rug-and-furniture-cleaning facility associated with the White Way Cleaners dry cleaning facility, which is located on an adjoining property to the east. Reportedly, historical cleaning activities at the Site consisted of using mild shampoos and air drying the cleaned product. SilverMark purchased both properties directly from White Way Cleaners in 1987. The existing Site building has been used for a design/build remodeling and renovation business. The second parcel contained a 2-story residential dwelling at the time of Site purchase. The entire building and its contents were removed, including a partial sub-level, and the area was backfilled and brought to existing grade and paved. Refinancing of the property required that site assessment be conducted, due to the presence of contamination on the former dry cleaning site on the east-adjoining property.
