Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Site is located at 2803 Orchard Lane in the Town of Newton, Wisconsin and consists of one 20.2-acre parcel. The Site is located on the north side of the Town of Newton in a primarily agricultural area. The site was originally developed for agricultural purposes prior to 1938. The current Site owner, Mr. Tom Fritzke, indicated that the Site was developed for industrial coating operations in 1962. This is confirmed through historical aerial photography which shows no development in 1961 and the current Site improvements in 1967. The Site operated as an industrial coating facility until approximately November 2011. Coating operations conducted on the Site included the sand blasting and subsequent coating of the interior of tanker rail cars and semi-truck tankers originating primarily from food industry use. The blasting media used was spent coal slag that originated from local coal burning power facilities. A portion of the spent blasting media was thin spread on the ground around the Site throughout the period of operation; the rest of the spent media was collected and hauled off site to appropriate landfills. The coating used was a phenol-based resin (Heresite P-403L) that was mixed onsite with a denatured alcohol solvent (Heresite S-215) prior to application. Neither of these substances were stored onsite in containers lager than 55-gallon drums. Neither environmental liens nor activity use restrictions have been identified for the Site.
