Additional Property Attributes

This vacant underutilized building was encapsulated with asbestos containing spray on insulation, which made rehabilitating very costly. The Dow Event Center is purchasing the property. The asbestos was abated in October-November 2012, and the building is being demolished. The Dow Event center intends to redevelop the property with a parking area and outside musical amphitheater for concert performances

Former Use: The subject property is located in Saginaw's central downtown district. The subject property was initially developed prior to 1901 with multiple residential and commercial structures. From at least 1901 through the 1970s, the property was used for residential and commercial purposes including a furniture store, a glove manufacturer, multiple commercial printers, multiple auto repair operations, multiple blacksmith/tin shops, a sheet metal factory, a welding company, a bakery, a photography studio, a bottling company, a cigar shop, and multiple offices. By at least 1950, the majority of the buildings located on the southern portion of the property were razed and a municipal parking lot was developed. In the early 1970s, the existing multi-tenant commercial structure was developed. This building became defunct and under utilized recently, and is being demolished to prepare the property for redevelopment.
