Additional Property Attributes

The city and a private developer are attempting to acquire unused property from Burlington Northern (BN). Pursuant to the discussions, BN conducted a Phase II assessment. The city has been able to obtain these reports, but BN will not disclose the cost. Meanwhile, the EPA is currently in the process of conducting a Phase II investigation of the area that may be impacted by the presence of the contamination of a Former Manufactured Gas Plant. This investigation and reporting is ongoing but the type of contamination found is reported above. The rail yard is owned by both BN and Union Pacific Railroads and this Profile regards only the land owned by BN. The property is being investigated in phases, so additional updates will follow. The city has obtained a Congressional appropriation ($775,000) to conduct a rail relocation and grade crossing study. The purpose of this study, as it relates to this project, is to develop a method of relocating rail lines to another location so the South Yards can eventually become part of Jordan Valley Park. The city and a private developer are attempting to acquire unused property from the BN and UP Railroads. Pursuant to the discussions, the BN conducted a Phase II assessment. The city has been able to obtain there reports but the BN will not disclose the cost. The city, through its consultant, Terracon, conducted the All Appropriate Inquiry analysis in preparation to acquiring a portion of the property. (PPF - South Rail Yard, 12/20/2005)
