Additional Property Attributes

Portion of the site were first developed in 1923 as a box factory and storage facility. By 1939, the site use had changed to bulk petroleum and chemical storage with at least 21 above ground storage tanks (ASTs) present at the site with volumes ranging from 3,500 gallons to 500,000 gallons. The ASTs were largely gone by the early 1960s, and a portion of the site was then occupied by A&L Laboratories. Beginning in 1977, Scrap Metal Processors (SMP) began operations at the site. The facility recycled ferrous and nonferrous metals including aluminum, brass, copper, and titanium. The facility also received metal shavings from machining operations. Until about 1993, the facility also accepted automobiles for recycling. SMP ceased operations in 2003. Five of the six parcels at the former SMP site, with the exception of 232 Humbolt Ave (21-029-24-0060) were formerly industrial. The parcel at 232 Humbolt Ave has been mostly residential and was formerly occupied by a single car garage.

Former Use: Site use previously included bulk petroleum and chemical storage and metal recycling. The City of Minnneapolis acquired the property on December 5, 2003.
