Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Phase I ESA identified that from the mid 1950s through early 1970s, the property was operated as a filling station and bulk oil facility. From 1974 - 2003, Bills Back operated the site as an unattended, pay at the pump style filling station. Two open leaking underground storage tank incidents (LUST) were reported in February and April 2003 during the removal of 4 USTs. An active railroad line is also present along the eastern property perimeter. Asbestos containing materials consisting of floor tile, flooring mastic, and asphalt-type roofing materials are also present in the remaining structure. The Phase I and II allowed a neighboring business to purchased the property. The new owner's redevelopment plans include abating all asbestos, razing the blighted and vacant structures, followed by landscape restoration to create open green space. The purchaser will utilize the results of the Phase II investigation to continue remedial activities in the Illinois EPAs LUST Cleanup Program.
