Additional Property Attributes

Asbestos in the ceiling tiles was removed as part of a renovation to make this building more useful to the City of Colstrip. Aside from the asbestos, the overhead doors no longer accomodated the size of equipment utilized today and needed to be enlarged. The property will be utilized for covered storage of equipment and supplies necessary to manage the City of Colstrip's Public Works Department. Now that the asbestos has been mitigated, plans are to update the building to include office space and a small meeting area as well.

Former Use: The City of Colstrip incorporated in 1998 after being a "company town" of the Montana Power Company since the 1960's when coal-fired electric generation was predominant and profitable. The building was transfered to the new City in the Summer of 1999 and has been used as a City shop since that time. Prior to that time, it was used for cold storage of the mining companies equipment.
