Additional Property Attributes

The former CGA circuit board recycling facility in Sanford, Maine was abandoned by its owners in the 1990s. After the City foreclosed on the property in 2010, the clean up of approximately 4,000 tons of old copper and lead contaminated circuit boards began in 2017 under the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. The cleanup was later aided with funding from the City of Sanford and Maine DEP's brownfields programs, as well as through Brownfields Revolving Loan funding from the Maine Department and Economic and Community Development. After cleanup, the site was redeveloped into a 7.0 MW community solar farm which went online in 2024. The soar farm also utilized adjacent land owned by the Maine Turnpike Authority. The project will provide clean, renewable energy to approximately 960 households in Central Maine Power's service area and income from the land leased to the solar developer will also provide an ongoing source of income to the City of Sanford through income.
