Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The site is the location of a valley fill associated with historical surface coal mining. During mining activities, overburden soil and rock were placed in this natural valley area, filling to its current level. Currently, most of the site is unused, except for access to area natural gas wells, and part of the property is utilized by the Hatfield-McCoy All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Trail System, a network of ATV trails throughout southern WV. While the property was being utilized as a valley fill from associated surface coal mining, various overburden materials and related environmental impacts normally associated with this type of activity may be present. The major environmental impacts of concern would include various heavy metals.
