Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: At the present time, the site is an entirely wooded, vacant lot and does not appear to have had any operational activity in the recent past. It is zoned M3 light industrial with the land use described as commercial. Based upon Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps and review of City Directories, the site has a mixed-use history. Janesville city directories list the property owner from 1967 to 1970 as the Campbell Oil and Star Hardware Company, the site reportedly having been used as both a filling station and operating as a retail hardware store and bulk fuel storage. Although it was noted in the 1970 Sanborn that three bulk "oil tanks" were present on site, the Wisconsin DSPS Registered Storage Tank database does not have any registered tanks listed for the subject property. However, it should be noted that prior to 1980, many tanks were not registered within the state's database system. In 1980, the property was listed as the "Dal Berg Auction Depot", in 1985 as "Resurrection Motors Auctioneers", and in 1990 the property became a motorcycle repair shop.
