Additional Property Attributes

As a result of the Phase I and II Assessments funded by the grant, the property was able to be sold to a developer. High Voltage Indoor Karting, LLC has redeveloped the property as a mixed-use entertainment complex, including an indoor electric go-kart track. Super Spinner, an innovative child swing product for children, is also warehoused and distributed at the facility. The City has leveraged 300,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant funding and is providing a match of 700,000 for critical infrastructure improvements along the corridor that includes the property. The owner has secured a $1,000,000 loan for construction and equipment at the facility from the SBA. The redevelopment to-date includes 24 full time jobs. The property owner is looking to partner with other businesses to lease space to further redevelop the site and add additional new jobs.

Former Use: The first known use of the property is as a foundry, according to a 1885 Sanborn Fire Insurance map. The 1885 Sanborn identifies the property as the George E. Webber & Co. Hollow Ware Works. The foundry operated at the property for approximately 20 plus years manufacturing castings for various purposes, including casting kettles and iron spiders (iron skillets with legs). The property then was sold in 1906 to C. J. Miller, W.H. Hobert and T.E. Henry of Cleveland, who operated the property as the Medina Foundry Company, and manufactured the Moncrief brand furnace. Ownership changed again in 1943 and the property became the Henry Furnace Company, manufacturing coal furnaces until 1966 when Henry Furnace became a division of the C. A. Olsen manufacturing company in Elyria, an affiliate of the Tappan Stove Company. Products manufactured at the property included, but are not limited to coal and gas furnaces, oil furnaces, air conditioning units, incinerators, dehumidifiers, and other related heating and cooling equipment. Manufacture of furnaces continued at the property until October 2009, when the property was acquired by Patriot Land Development LTD. Patriot leased the Property for warehousing, mail order fulfillment services and various other operations including auto painting/repair.
