Additional Property Attributes

Property to extend waterfront recreation/open space southward to the Raritan River, northward towards the downtown/ planned transit-oriented development, and to adjacent elementary school, day care center, river paddle boat and high school sailing club/launch. Property reuse planning with much community involvement, including youth. Green infrastructure approaches under evaluation for stormwater managment. Phytoremediation approach deemed infeasible. Preliminary park concept design/report March 2015. Skate board element concept plan Sept. 2016. Foundation 'BIG' Grant funding for adjacent street to property nexus improvements planning and implementation strategies and CSO planning awarded summer 2016. Cleanup costs estimated $3.5M to $7.4M, depending on level. Remediation funding search by state/county/local entities 2015-2016. Former Use: Elongated property on historic city waterfront. Former metals salvage yard and metals recycling owned by Harry S. Goldberg for many decades. Acquired by the City of Perth Amboy by condemnation in 2003. Adjacent to elementary school, day care, residences, waterfront park, some commercial uses and NJT commuter rail line.
