Additional Property Attributes

The City of Decatur has never been a contributor to any potential contamination that may be present at the site.

Former Use: The property is comprised of multiple parcels of land owned by Decatur Transit, Inc. During the Phase I ESA, the property was discussed as four separate areas: the Decatur Transit, Inc.- Port of Decatur (Area 1), former Ingalls shipyard property (Area 2), vacant property (Area 3), and the Decatur Transit, Inc. maintenance shop (Area 4). Area 1 is utilized as the Port of Decatur, which leases areas of the property to different companies. Hunt Refining operates an asphalt tank farm south of the operations building. Bunge North American leases the three silos southeast of the office building for storage of grain, soy beans, and other materials. The southern portion of the property is leased by Pine Bluff Materials for the transfer and storage of sand. The Port of Decatur transfers materials by barge to truck or stores the materials in the warehouse or other areas of the property. The facility also conducts barge washing activities and stores wash water on site. Loading racks are located along the shoreline on the central portion of the property; however, are not currently in use. Structures on site consist of an operations building, warehouse, office building, boiler house, and an office trailer. Area 2 and Area 3 are currently vacant property. Area 4 is utilized as the Decatur Transit maintenance shop. The facility conducts maintenance and repairs on equipment and vehicles. In addition, the diesel and gasoline fuel pumps are utilized to fuel equipment and vehicles. The property is located in a mixed residential, commercial, and industrial area of Decatur. Multiple recognized environmental conditions were found at on and offsite properties during the Phase I ESA. Ownership has changed multiple times since 1888. The City of Decatur has never owned or operated at the property and has never been a contributor to any potential contamination at the site. A summary of ownership is included in the Phase I ESA report.
