Additional Property Attributes

The Site was occupied by ASC from the late 1960s until 2008. ASCs operations were reported to include the manufacture and installation of automobile sunroofs, vehicle painting, detailing, fueling, technical research and development, and engineering and administrative services. One historical gasoline underground storage tank (UST) system was removed from the Site prior a building expansion being constructed over the location. The UST system was replaced with a new system that was located outside the north side of the building and was still located on the Site at the beginning of cleanup activities. The Site has been vacant since 2008. The City of Southgate (the City) involuntarily acquired the site through tax reversion in 2013. Prior to the initiation of the response activities, the Site was vacant and consisted of an approximately 119,000 square foot building surrounded by an asphalt parking lot. The remaining portions of the Site consisted of trees and areas of grass landscaping. The subgrant paid for the costs of the UST removal and cleanup, transformer area cleanup, asbestos abatement prior to demolition, visual inspections of the building slab and foundation removal process, associated environmental sampling conducted during those activities, and the completion of a summary report. The developer paid for the costs of universal waste removal prior to building demolition and building demolition activities.
