Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Facility is located in a commercial and residential area in northwestern Lewistown. Two addresses have been used for the property: 415 6th Street West and 1015 Truck Bypass. Ten petroleum storage tanks including five aboveground storage tanks (ASTs) and five USTs have been reported to have been used at the facility. Two USTs used for storage of diesel and gasoline were installed in 1998 and these USTs replaced the ASTs. . The former AST farm Release No. 3479 was confirmed on August 3, 1998, when leaking underground piping from the AST farm to the north pump dispensers was discovered. The current UST system replaced the ASTs and the replacement underground piping was installed in the same trench from which the leaking steel piping was removed. A 1,000-gallon gasoline UST, located east of the existing dispenser islands, the remaining underground piping to the AST farm, and the west pump island were removed in July 1999. A remedial investigation was conducted in May and November 2002. A second remedial investigation was conducted in November 2011. The property was originally owned by Donald and Margaret Reese. It was then owned by Reese Tire and Fuel Company. Between the assessment in 2012 and the assessment in 2018/2019, the petroleum contamination in the soil and groundwater had naturally attenuated to below MT DEQ actionable benchmarks. DEQ provided a no futher action letter in 2020.
