Former Use: The property was acquired by Telos, Inc., a Catholic entity, from the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee in 1981 and in 1982 Telos developed two multi-unit apartment complexes (known as Clare Central) for extremely low-income and disabled residents. The site was previously occupied by Globe Wire and Iron Works from 1910 until 1968, when an automatic control factory was located at the site. The site appears to have been vacant between 1979 and 1982. A spill was reported to the WDNR in 2007, and an investigation found CVOCs above direct contact, pathway and action levels. Some remediation was undertaken. The installed vapor intrusion system has been found to be inadequate, and additional soil and groundwater testing is needed.
