Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The subject property was historically occupied by dry cleaning operations from the 1920s until approximately 2008. Dry cleaning operations commonly involve the usage of general hazardous substances and/or petroleum products, which, if improperly managed and/or disposed of, can be a source of contamination. The historical waste management practices associated with the former dry cleaning operations are unknown and may be a source of subsurface contamination. Original development of the subject property occurred between 1889 and 1894 with the construction of a commercial building on the eastern portion. Occupants of the commercial building, as identified in Sanborn maps, included a grocery store and a bottling works. Two residential structures were constructed on the southern portion of the property between 1903 and 1908. By 1921, these structures were all demolished. The central-eastern portion of the site was redeveloped by 1921 with the northern portion of the current building, which was originally a steam laundry operation, and the southern portion of the current building. The southern portion of the building was originally depicted as divided into three sections which were identified as a drug store, a vacant portion, and a parking garage. By 1928, the northern portion of the current building was also identified as a dry cleaner along with the steam laundry operations, and the southern portion of the building was identified as a storefront with no specific occupants. Between 1928 and 1949, the central portion of the current building was constructed, which connected the two original portions of the building. Between 1949 and 1962, the current boiler room building associated with the dry cleaning operation was constructed on the western portion. The main building continued to operate as a steam laundry and dry cleaner until 2008. The subject property has not been occupied since approximately 2008.
